LOCAL LAW NO. 6-2025 A LOCAL LAW AMENDING CHAPTER 376 REGARDING TAXI PARKING IN RESIDENTIAL DISTRICTS

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Town Board of the Town of Ramapo adopted the following local law at a regular meeting held on the 10th day of December, 2025 at the Ramapo Town Hall, 237 Route 59, Suffern, New York:

 

LOCAL LAW NO. 6-2025

A LOCAL LAW AMENDING CHAPTER 376

REGARDING TAXI PARKING IN RESIDENTIAL DISTRICTS

 

BE IT ENACTED by the Town Board of the Town of Ramapo, Rockland County, New York, as follows:

 

 

Section 1. Legislative Intent.

ItistheintentofthisLocalLawtoamendChapter376oftheCodeoftheTownofRamapotoregulate the parking of livery vehicles, which includes but is not limited to taxis, limousines, and other for-hire vehicles in residential districts, consistent with existing restrictions on commercial vehicles. The amendment clarifies that not more than one livery vehicle may be parked or stored on a residential lot, in addition to the limitations already applicable to commercial vehicles.

 

Section 2. Authority.

This Local Law is adopted pursuant to Section 10 of the New York State Municipal Home Rule Law.

 

Section 3. Amendment.

Section376-75oftheCodeoftheTownofRamapo(“Commercialvehicles”)isherebyamendedto read as follows:

§ 376-75. Commercial vehicles.

  1. Notmorethanonecommercialvehicleof25feetorlessinlengthandnotmorethanonelivery vehiclemay beparkedonadevelopedlotinanyresidential district,butnotwithintherequiredyardsofsuchlotand in no case between the street line and the principal building.
  2. Notmorethanonecommercialvehicleof25feetorlessinlengthandnotmorethanonelivery vehicle may be parked within a private garage in any residential district.
  3. Commercialvehiclesarepermittedasaccessorytoacommercialfarmuseinanyresidentialdistrict but shall not be stored or parked within any required yard.
  4. No commercial vehicle or livery vehicle shall be parked or stored on any unimproved lot.
  5. No commercial vehicle or livery vehicle shall be parked on public streets for more than 24 hours.

 

Section 4. Effective Date.

This Local Law shall take effect immediately upon filing with the Secretary of State.
